The cardiologist shortage by the numbers

Here are four statistics on the cardiologist shortage that leaders should know:

1. The average age of actively practicing cardiologists is 55, according to a report from Definitive Healthcare. 

2. A Medscape survey found that 29% of cardiologists said they are burned out. Forty-six percent of those cardiologists said feelings of burnout have had a "strong/severe" impact on their life.

3. In 2021, the Association of American Medical Colleges predicted a shortage of 120,000 cardiologists by 2030.

4. Of all active cardiologists, 55% said they feel fairly compensated, according to a survey by Medscape.
