Exact Sciences and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners released the results of their HealthyWomen's National Colorectal Cancer Screening Knowledge and Patient Patterns Survey.
Approximately 358 nurse practitioners were surveyed.
Here's are five insights into it:
1. Ninety-one percent of NPs 50 years and older have undergone CRC screenings, while 93 percent of NPs 50 years and younger said they'd make CRC screening a personal priority when turning 50.
2. Seventy-nine percent of NPs said they regularly discuss CRC screening options with eligible patients.
3. Ninety-eight percent of NPs knew what a colonoscopy was and 92 percent knew about fecal blood tests. Only 50 percent of respondents were familiar with Exact's Cologuard.
4. Ninety-nine percent of NPs said they've prescribed colonoscopies before and 78 percent prescribed fecal blood tests. Only 45 percent had prescribed Cologuard, but 64 percent said they talk to patients about both invasive and noninvasive CRC screening options.
5. Fifty-eight percent of respondents said their patients were receptive to a noninvasive test they could take at home.
