The American Gastroenterological Association has issued a preliminary analysis of the CMS proposed rules for 2013 Medicare reimbursement.
The analysis was conducted with a focus on how quality-reporting initiatives are likely to affect gastroenterologists.
AGA identified the following as two of the significant highlights from the proposal: 1) "The 2013 Physician Quality Reporting System proposal includes more measures relevant to GI"; and 2) "In an effort to align the electronic prescribing and electronic health record incentive programs, CMS proposes to ease some hurdles to participation, which could potentially exempt some providers from penalties."
AGA provided additional details about these quality programs in its analysis and also noted to members that further analysis would appear in an upcoming AGA eDigest.
