AGA on Better Care Reconciliation Act: 'Patient access to care in peril'

The American Gastroenterological Association released its statement on Senate Republicans' proposed healthcare legislation saying the bill would drastically limit Americans' access to healthcare.

Here's what you should know:

1. The Congressional Budget Office said the bill would cause 22 million Americans to lose insurance over a decade, according to recently released analysis.

2. The bill would drastically cut Medicaid, fueling the large losses.

3. AGA Chairman Timothy Wang, MD, said in a release, "A core mission of AGA is to ensure that patients have access to high-quality medical care. We have made great strides in the increase in screening and prevention of colorectal cancer, which reduces deaths and downstream health-care costs. Erecting barriers to screening will only reverse this progress."

4. The AGA urged its members to call their local senators and advocate against the passage of the proposed bill. The AGA will be on Capitol Hill this week in a lobbying effort.
