New Brunswick-based Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey appointed H. Richard Alexander, MD, its new chief surgical officer.
Here's what you should know:
1. Dr. Alexander most recently served as the head of oncology at Baltimore-based University of Maryland School of Medicine. He also spent 16 years at Rockville, Md.-based National Institutes of Health as the chief of the Surgical Metabolism Section, chair of the Gastrointestinal Malignancies Section and deputy director of the Center for Cancer Research.
2. In his new position, he will be part of Rutger's gastrointestinal oncology program.
3. Dr. Alexander's clinical expertise lies in gastrointestinal cancers. He also specializes in gastrointestinal malignancies including pancreatic, colorectal and liver cancer.
4. Rutgers Cancer Institute Director Steven Libutti, MD, said in a release, "By adding Richard Alexander to our team, we are enabling our patients to receive additional surgical offerings that may not be afforded to them elsewhere."
