An $8 million ASC is coming to Vestavia Hills, Ala., according to a Sept. 8 report from the Birmingham Business Journal.
Parker Cornea will open the Liberty Park Eye Center, which will perform advanced surgeries that require anesthesia and a greater level of care than what its existing office can currently accommodate.
The specialty ASC will also have two operating rooms and a team of anesthesiologists, nurses and other medical staff.
The ASC expects to hire 20 to 25 employees when the surgery center opens in roughly 18 months.
The ASC received approval from the state certificate of need review board on Aug. 21 and is expected to break ground soon.
The practice will be owned and run by physicians John Parker, MD, and John “Jack” S. Parker Jr., MD.
Currently, there is only one ASC in the county specializing in ophthalmic surgery.
