What you should know:

1. In late March, it was believed the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19, could not be spread through a patient's tears.

2. Recent research found new cases that have reported eye-related symptoms in patients with COVID-19.

3. American Academy of Ophthalmology spokesperson Thomas Steinemann, MD, welcomed the information but cautioned from drawing conclusions with the data because of the small sample size.
