Maastricht, Netherlands-based Chemelot InSciTe institute is working on three projects on treating and preventing eye disease, according to an Oct. 28 report from Innovation Origins.
The Smart, Easy and Accurate Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery project focuses on a new implant for patients, the report said. It builds on current glaucoma surgery technology that controls the amount of fluid in the eye.
The Innovative Surgeries for Eyes with Advanced Glaucoma project is another project designed to help glaucoma patients. The project is developing a new device for glaucoma surgery patients who haven't found success with traditional procedures.
The Eyescite project combines stem cell technology, regenerative drugs and biomaterials to make artificial lenses and corneas, the release said. The project would resolve the shortage of donor tissues.
