New York ophthalmologist dies in skiing incident

University of Rochester (N.Y.) ophthalmologist and retina specialist Mina Chung, MD, 51, died in a skiing accident Feb. 13 in Italy, local news station WXXI reports.

Dr. Chung was a retina specialist who often worked with pediatric patients. She was also an active researcher with a focus on macular degeneration, an associate professor of ophthalmology at the university and a faculty member at the university's Center for Visual Science.

Dr. Chung was vacationing in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Dolomites, Italy, when she fell while skiing. She is survived by her husband Edward Lin, MD, who is an associate professor in URMC's Department of Imaging Sciences.
