The Midwest Center for Joint Replacement released a report on patient satisfaction and outcomes stemming from surgery data collected over a two-year period.
Included in the report were 1,230 arthroplasty cases including total knee and hip, partial knee and revision surgeries.
Here are the insights to know:
1. Patient satisfaction was in the range of 98 to 100 percent reporting "great" or "good."
2. Ninety-eight patients were discharged the same day as surgery.
3. The overall readmission rate was 2 percent, with no readmissions for pain control.
4. "The outpatient program centers on the patient needs, family engagement, essentials of home recovery, preoperative education, efficient surgery, and a surgeon-controlled environment with a highly standardized care. This is a distinct shift in today's healthcare environment, which has seen the expansion of regulatory demands; focus on EHRs, and distractions from real discussions of demonstrated value creation. The future is bright for both ASC and hospital development of successful outpatient joint arthroplasty program for patients and surgeons alike," the report authors concluded.
