USPI's new joint venture surgery center treats 100+ patients in first months — 5 things to know

The new West Coast Joint and Spine Surgery Center in El Dorado Hills, Calif., is a joint partnership between United Surgical Partners International and Dignity Health, according to Village Life.

Five things to know:

1. The center has four operating rooms and two treatment rooms equipped to handle spinal surgeries, total joint replacements and oculoplastic procedures. It also has overnight facilities for patients staying up to 23 hours and is adjacent to El Dorado Physical Therapy.

2. The surgery center venture was spearheaded by medical director Kelly Hunt, MD, who hopes to open a wellness center next door.

3. West Coast Joint and Spine Surgery Center has treated 100-plus patients since it began accepting patients in early April. It will treat at least 250 patients per month when operating at full capacity, according to administrator Andrea Gallardo, BSN, RN.

4. The surgery center's physicians, listed below, each have a personal ownership or investment interest in the facility:

  • Orthopedic spine specialists Phil Orisek, MD, Ravi Ramachandran, MD, and Tyler Smith, MD
  • Orthopedic surgery specialists Guy Guilfoy, MD, Robert Cameto, MD, Hunter Greene, MD, Kevin Hansen, MD, Paul Sasaura, MD, and Dana Verch, MD
  • Pain management specialists Dr. Hunt and Jay Hendrickson, MD
  • Ophthalmology specialist Michael Jedrzynski, MD

5. Dr. Hendrickson has helped establish two other surgery centers; he partnered with Dr. Hunt at Sutter Sierra Surgery Center in Roseville, Calif., and with Dr. Guilfoy at the Folsom (Calif.) Surgery Center.
