Indiana Anesthesiologist and State Attorney General Office Agree to Suspend Medical License, Federal Trial Still Pending

An anesthesiologist who practiced in Bloomington, Ind., has settled an agreement with the state attorney general's office that would indefinitely suspend his medical license until the outcome of his criminal trial, according to a 6News report.

Kamal Tiwari, MD, the founder of Pain Management Center of Southern Indiana, located in Bloomington, Ind., has been accused of unnecessarily overprescribing pain medication as part of a scheme to defraud health programs. Dr. Tiwari also allegedly required patients to receive medically unnecessary pain injections in a frequency and pattern that was not medically necessary and caused some patients to become dependent on those procedures.

Dr. Tiwari's federal trial has been scheduled for Jan. 31, 2011, according to the report.
