Supply Chain Tip of the Week: 3 techniques to alleviate staff burnout in ASCs

Heading into 2022, staff burnout remains a major issue in the healthcare industry. The combined stress of COVID-19 and supply challenges may be causing staff burnout in your Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Keep these tips in mind when supporting your staff and their mental and physical wellbeing:

  • Focus on staff wellness
Encourage relaxation techniques to identify and lesson stress, incorporate mindfulness meetings with words of encouragement, and lead by example to prioritize taking care of yourself.
  • Schedule flexibility
Allow for schedule flexibility so that nurses can take time off to enjoy a mental break. Nurses having a schedule that works best with their lives can help with burnout as well.
  • Set boundaries between work and life
Leaving work at work can help reduce burnout for nurses and allows them to have a true break from the stressors at work. Encourage this mindset from leadership down to the rest of the staff.

Nurse burnout will not go away on its own, and as the pandemic stretches into another year, the need for healthy, happy, adjusted nurses will be greater than ever. For more insights and tips, visit our ASC webpage.
