Plans for a $38.7 million ambulatory surgery center near Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's main campus could remain in legal limbo for another 18 to 30 months, according to a JournalNow report.
Novant Health's opposition to the facility will be heard by the N.C. Court of Appeals during oral arguments next month. The center would be built in the Ardmore neighborhood.
Because it could take the appeals court six to nine months to disclose its opinion, both groups say it could be well into 2014 before the CON dispute is settled, if the opinion is appealed the N.C. Supreme Court.
Wake Forest Baptist announced in February 2010 that it had applied for state regulatory permission to build the ASC. The proposed 72,300-square-foot center would consist of seven new operating rooms and one transferred from N.C. Baptist Hospital.
