Here are nine ASCs that opened or were announced in August:

UC Davis Health has broken ground on a new medical office building in the Folsom (Calif.) Ranch neighborhood, according to a Sept. 1 report from Gold Country Media.

Pleasanton, Calif.-based Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley has continued to expand its presence in the Bay Area through a $500 million community investment, expanding its main hospital to add specialties including urology, neurology, pulmonology and digestive health, according to an Aug. 31 report from San Francisco Business Times.

Irvine, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute has opened its sixth ASC in partnership with local orthopedic surgeons.

From declining patient volumes to cost reductions, here's why five ASCs have closed in 2023:

Fayetteville, N.C.-based Cape Fear Valley Health and Dunn, N.C.-based Harnett Health broke ground on a medical office building in Lillington, N.C., according to an Aug. 29 report from CityView.

Anchor Health Properties has completed a 53,000-square-foot medical office building in Hudson, Ohio, that was originally announced in early 2022, according to an Aug. 28 report from Commercial Property Executive. 

Northern Regional Hospital is opening a new, 25,000-square-foot medical office building in Mount Airy, N.C., that will house its family medicine, gastroenterology, general surgery and urology practices, according to an Aug. 28 report from The Pilot.

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist has submitted a cost overrun application with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' certificate-of-need division, seeking an additional $34.7 million for its ASC, which was originally estimated to cost $38.7 million, according to an Aug. 25 report from the Triad Business Journal.

Vermont  has the lowest number of ASCs per capita, according to data compiled by Becker's based on 2020 census data and the number of ASCs from the ASCA Association. 

Northern Arizona Healthcare will open a new cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery clinic in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Maryland has the highest number of ASCs per capita, according to data compiled by Becker's based on 2020 census data and the number of ASCs from the ASCA Association. 

Ascension Medical Group is set to open Ascension Medical Group Georgetown Health Center in Georgetown, Texas, on Aug. 21, according to an Aug. 18 report by NBC affiliate KXAN.

St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare plans to add a $21.3 million medical office building an hour south of the city in Farmington, Mo., according to an Aug. 21 report from the St. Louis Business Journal. 

Four major local healthcare systems are planning to open ASCs, medical office buildings or both in Folsom, Calif., according to an Aug. 18 report from the Sacramento Business Journal. 

Here are five hospitals and health systems that have opened or have plans to open ASCs that Becker's has reported on since March 28: 

Rochester, Minn.-based Olmsted Medical Center is breaking ground on a new ASC in Owatonna, Minn., according to an Aug. 13 report from local ABC station News 6.

Florence, S.C.-based McLeod Health is starting construction this fall on a $15.3 million ASC with four operating rooms and two procedural rooms in Carolina Forest, S.C., according to an Aug. 12 report from The Post and Courier. 

York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health plans to construct an ASC and medical office building in the state's South Middleton Township.
