Real-estate developer Meridian has purchased 18 acres in Santa Fe, N.M., to construct a 95,000-square-foot medical office building, according to an April 5 report from REbusiness Online. 

Here are the 10 most expensive ASC projects Becker's has reported on since Jan. 1:

New York City-based NYU Langone Health opened the Joseph S. and Diane H. Steinberg Ambulatory Care Center, a multispecialty center offering outpatient surgeries, cancer care and other services in Brooklyn, the city's second-largest borough.

New York City-based Jamaica Hospital Medical Center has begun construction on an ASC that will be located on the second floor of its main hospital in Queens, according to a March 30 report from the Queens Chronicle.

Optum Health affiliate Everett Clinic has opened a 39,500-square-foot facility with 50 exam rooms and an ASC in Arlington, Wash., according to a March 29 report from HeraldNet.

Broomfield, Colo.-based SCL Health, an affiliate of Intermountain Health, broke ground on an 80,000-square-foot medical office building with an ASC in Aurora, Colo., according to a March 28 report from Sentinel Colorado.

Two major health systems have announced plans to build multiple ASCs in the coming years throughout California and New York. 

Dothan, Ala.-based Southeast Health Medical Center has opened a new ASC, the Southeast Health Surgery Clinic, in the building formerly occupied by the Southeast Health Neuro Spine Center, according to a March 27 report from CBS affiliate WTVY.

Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health has announced plans to construct more than 24 ambulatory care centers across Northern California over the next four years, according to a March 28 report from the Sacramento Bee.

California, Texas and Florida are the three states with the most ASCs. 

A three-story, 76,393-square-foot medical office building in Utica, N.Y., has secured $25.3 million in construction financing to begin the project, according to a March 22 report from Rebusiness Online.

Duluth, Minn.-based St. Luke's partnered with Moose Lake, Minn.-based Gateway Family Health Clinic to open a new surgery center.

New York City-based NYU Langone Health is spending millions on vacant retail spaces in the area, including a former Sears, a Burlington, a Lord & Taylor and a shopping center, with plans to build 700,000 square feet of ASCs, according to a March 22 report from Newsday.

Chicago-based Rush University Health System is developing an outpatient center in the city's Galewood neighborhood.

Fort Worth, Texas-based JPS Health Network was approved for an $800 million bond from the county hospital district in 2018, and now it plans to use the first part of the bond for a renovation and expansion project that will include a new ASC, according to a March 17 report from Fort Worth Star-Telegram. 

The zoning commission of Bristol, Conn., has approved plans for the construction of a 26,000-square-foot medical office building, according to a March 16 report from the Hartford Business Journal. 

Florida, California and Texas have long been hot spots for ASC openings, but other states experiencing high population and economic growth also could be ripe for new ASCs.

Pain Consultants of East Tennessee has opened a new 27,000-square-foot facility in Knoxville with a certified ASC.
